Sharing Information on Cameroon USG Exchange Programs - East Region

The MDAO session for the East region took place at the Higher Teachers’ Training College (HTTC) Bertoua on November 15-16, 2018. It brought together 60 students from the HTTC and was facilitated by a team of three members comprising; Dr. Pius Akumbu (Fulbright), Dr Yvonne Ngwa (SUSI) and Ms. Anestine Chi (YALI).

The objective was to inform student-teachers, lecturers and secondary school teachers and administrators of the exchange programs offered to Cameroonians by the US government through the embassy, share experiences and encourage them to apply. Each team member made a detailed presentation on the exchange program they had participated in. Dr Pius explained at length on the application process for the Humphrey and Fullbright programs, Ms Chi presented the YALI programs and highlighted the need for applicants to have a positive impact in their communities, Dr Ngwa spoke about the SUSI programs which were open to students, scholars and secondary school teachers and she encouraged everyone present to apply.

Dr. Akumbu then provided a brief overview of the remaining US exchange programs, i.e.; Community College Initiative Program, the International Writing Program, Kennedy Y.E.S., Sports Visitor Program, Tech Women, IVLP and AWEP with the last two requiring applicants to be nominated by embassy staff. Information booklets on the presented programs were distributed to the participants and the floor opened for questions.
