Empowerment of Youth through business and entrepreneurship skills - Centre Region

The MDAO project for the Adamawa region entitled “Empowerment of Youth through business and entrepreneurship skills” took place on Saturday the 1st and Sunday the 2nd February 2019 at the Amphi 750 of the University of Ngaoundéré. It brought together 200 participants and was facilitated by; Bainamndi Daliwa Joseph (MWF 2017), Léa Rosine Djoussi Nde (YALI RLC Dakar), Mohamadou Bello (YALI RLC Lagos/Dakar), Bello Nouhou (IVLP 2016), Rakiatou (YALI RLC Lagos) and Betseto Bobeto Bertrand (MWF 2017).

Day 1 had presentations on: the various US exchange programs and their selection processes, and it involved all the alumni present; “Effective leadership within the Context of Africa” which was presented by Mohamadou Bello (YALI RLC Dakar/Lagos); “How to run an effective business”, presented by Bainamndi Joseph Daliwa (MWF 2017); and “The Communication within a company”, presented by Dr Houreinatou. All of the sessions were very engaging with a good number of questions from the participants. The day ended with a live session with an alumnus of the University of Ngaoundere. He had earned a scholarship to France for a PhD in Mechanics and engineering after his Masters from the University of Ngaoundere. He highlighted the importance of mentorship, hard work and persistence in the pursuit of goals.

Day 2 started with a workshop on “How to create a company” coordinated by Daliwa Joseph. Then we had a presentation on “Big Data, STEM and the Globalization”, which was presented by Izane Gaetan, Technical and Training Manager at ‘’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie’’. Then there was a session by Emmanuel Kagning, a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Medicine at Tohoku University who shared his experience gained over the years, in research of scholarships, bioinformatics, medical virology and healthcare machine learning. The day ended with a live presentation by Scott Massey, engineer and CEO at Heliponix, who gave insights on financing a company/start-up and shared his personal experience. Each of the presentations was followed by question and answer sessions and ended with the exchange of contact details.
